Linux is a free Operating System if you download
it from the internet. Linux comes in different distributions, such as
RedHat,
Mandrake,
Debian, etc. So
you must go to those respective sites in order to download your free copy.
You can always buy the retail version at your local computer store, which
gives you the benefit of tech support.
Once you download Linux, you must burn the
image onto a disk and use the disk to install it. There are tutorials on
each of the sites to explain how to do this. Roxio Easy CD Creator and Nero,
one of which probably came with your CD burner, each allow you to burn these
ISO images to disk.
You can run Linux on a separate machine, or
dual boot it with Windows.
